Chapter 686: The Journey Of A Thousand Miles [Part 1]

"I see. It looks better than I expected," Lotte said a few minutes after entering the library. "Lumi has a term for this place—yours and Eva’s love nest."

"Well, she’s not wrong," Alex replied with a wry smile. "This is where Eva sucks my blood."

"Only your blood?"

"Umm?"

Lotte smirked as she reached out to hold Alex’s hand before dragging him toward the stairs leading to the second floor.

She requested him to take her to the area where he fed Eva his blood, to which Alex had no reason to refuse.

Upon arriving at the corner of the second floor, behind two book shelves, Lotte saw a couch and a small table.

"This is the place?" Lotte asked.

"Yes." Alex nodded.

"How does Eva do it?" Lotte sat on the couch and patted the space beside her, gesturing for Alex to sit beside her.

"Are you asking how she drinks my blood?" Alex asked back as he sat beside her.

Lotte nodded. "That’s right."

"First, I let her sit in my lap. She’ll then sink her fangs into my neck while I hug her in place," Alex answered. "She said that she loved the feeling of being embraced by me while she drank my blood."

"I see..." Lotte pondered a bit before coming up with a decision.

She stood up and quietly stared at Alex for a while before sitting on Alex’s lap. Then, she rested her head on his shoulder.

"You know Alex, I have a special ability that even Latifa might not know about," Lotte stated. "Do you want to know what it is?"

"Are you sure that you want to tell me?"

"Yes. It will be our little secret."

Alex was curious about Lotte’s special ability. In ELO, Latifa’s Alters played different roles.

Latifa specialized in magic.

Lotte specialized in buffs and healing magic.

Lumi specialized in physical attacks.

Lala specialized in debuffs.

Lulu’s power was Reality Break. It was the power to bend reality to her will, allowing her to do almost anything, but at a steep cost to her mana reserves.

People thought of her as the Queen in chess. Since she could use any kind of ability she pleased, she was the most versatile among Latifa’s Alters.

As mentioned, using this power came at a steep price. All of her skills cost 3x more mana than the original skill did. This meant that Lulu wasn’t meant for a battle of attrition.

Lotte looked at Alex’s eyes before wrapping her arms around his neck, moving close to whisper something in her ear.

"I can peek into people’s memories," Lotte said.

The moment those words left her lips, Alex’s body shuddered.

A giggle escaped Lotte’s lips in response. His reaction was exactly as she had expected.

"You’re hiding many things, Alex," Lotte whispered. "That’s why I’m very tempted to peek through your memories. Don’t worry, I still haven’t done it. Not yet. I will never intrude upon your privacy without your permission."

Hearing her words, Alex couldn’t help but sigh in relief. He had many secrets, and he wasn’t sure if he was ready to let Lotte see them.

"But I really want to know more about you," Lotte continued to whisper in Alex’s ear. "I want to know something that Latifa, Lumi, and Lulu don’t know. Can you let me see through your memories?"

"Maybe not now," Alex replied. "I have secrets that must remain as secrets. I don’t know how you will react if you find out about them."

He meant it. If Lotte saw his previous life on Earth, she might start to question whether the reality she was in right now was actual reality instead of something that belonged to a game.

He asked this question to Dim Dim in the past, to which the Dim Sum God told him that Arcana was real.

The little bun further explained that the world of Arcana, where the world of ELO revolved, was a creation of the God of Games, Eriol.

The events that had transpired in the game was part of a simulation by the God of Games after gathering countless data.

Charles Lambert’s tutorial quest, which no one had been able to clear, was a simulation the God of Games had created based on Charles’ skills and reasons for going to Frieden Academy.

This explained why some of the events didn’t follow their respected timeline. It was all thanks to a new variable called Alex.

The moment Alex appeared in Arcana and interacted with the world, certain events did and didn’t happen based on his actions.

"I understand..." Lotte looked a little sad as she rested her head on Alex’s shoulder.

The young man held her tightly in his arms and kissed her head.

"How about a compromise then?" Alex asked. "Can you peek into my memories within the scope of a certain time period? Like when I was in the Floating Islands of Thaloria?"

"Do you mean the part where you fought against goblins by running and throwing stones at them?"

"How did you know I fought against goblins in that way?"

"Dim Dim told us about it."

"Ahhh..."

The young man didn’t know how much the little bun told them, but if it was his memories when he first arrived in Arcana, allowing Lotte to see them was fine.

"Okay. You can peek into my memories starting from the Floating Islands of Thaloria," Alex stated.

"Good." Lotte said before closing her eyes. "Can you hug me a little tighter?"

"Like this?" Alex obeyed.

"Mmm. Kiss my forehead too."

"I think I like this side of you, Lotte. The side of you that likes to be spoiled."

Since it was very rare for her to ask for intimate moments, Alex didn’t hold back and did what she wanted.

After getting hugged and kissed, Lotte was finally ready to go through Alex’s memories. As soon as she activated her power, the young man felt that they were suddenly connected.

It was a feeling that was hard to describe. He just instinctively knew that they were connected in ways that couldn’t be explained by science.

Alex felt sleepy as if his consciousness and Lotte’s consciousness were merging together.

A moment later, he opened his eyes and found himself staring at his "past self" who had Dim Dim perched on top of his head.

He then felt someone wrap their arms around his own, prompting him to glance to his right.

"So these are the Floating islands of Thaloria," Lotte said with wonder. "I’ve never seen them before."

"You’re going to see many things from now on, Lotte," Alex replied. "And I hope you can keep them a secret from the others."

Lotte nodded and promised him that no one else would know about this, including Latifa.

The two then followed the "Past Alex" as he and Dim Dim embarked on their journey through Arcana.

A journey of a thousand miles that began with a single step.
