Chapter 445 - 418: Taking Action
Chapter 445 - 418: Taking Action
Ronin was quite curious why a Proud Sun Level Knight like Ridder would be so well-remembered by Sophia and the others.
In the ensuing conversation, he finally learned the answer.
First, the battle had been exceptionally brutal, enough to be seared into one’s memory.
Second, the achievements of that battle were remarkable. Although the Shadow Lord, Eliot, was only Legendary, she was a prominent figure under the Demon God of Nightmares and Slaughter, and killing her was no easy feat.
Finally, Ridder himself was outstanding enough. Besides his great strength, it was precisely because of the Flame Battle Array he had developed that they achieved such a result.
Furthermore, after Ridder’s death, his teacher, Wise Rapha, had a statue of him sculpted, wrote texts, and had portraits painted, which is how his story was passed down to later generations.
Sophia was the Princess of the City of Dawn, and the other three were also exceptional. They had all received excellent educations, which was why they were able to recognize Ridder.
"I’m so glad I chose to be on your side, Ronin."
Sophia said with a smile. Her smile held a new ease compared to before, and she seemed to have integrated more into this world.
Regardless of how Ridder had appeared, having this ancient figure with them would be a great asset when they returned to the Crescent Continent.
Unfortunately, Ridder couldn’t recall the specific methods for using the Flame Battle Array.
Ronin chuckled. "If I’d known, I would have told you about Ridder sooner."
"So you knew about the Crescent Continent a long time ago?"
Ronin shook his head. "Ridder only reached the Proud Sun Level a short while ago. I’ve only known this information for a few months myself."
He glanced at Ridder, then back at Sophia and the others, smiling. "Since we’re all acquainted now, our future cooperation will be much more convenient."
Getting back to the matter at hand, Ridder reported, "My Lord, there is currently no traffic between Moonlight Valley and Shore City. After receiving your letter, I arranged for the Fifth Knight Order to be stationed at the border of Wushan Territory and have established three camps on the side closer to Moonlight Valley."
As he spoke, he took out a map. On the side near Moonlight Valley were three red circles. "The three camps are not far from each other. Cavalry can charge between them in ten minutes, and it doesn’t take much longer for infantry. Thanks to your telescopes, my Lord, we will have ample time to mobilize and execute a three-pronged pincer attack upon spotting the enemy!"
Everyone couldn’t help but nod in approval.
Ridder’s three camps were indeed positioned to provide mutual support, and they also controlled the three roads leading to Moonlight Valley.
"We need to continue arranging for civilians to expand the scale of the camps."
Ronin said, "There are still two Knight Orders in Shore City. Once Sophia and the others have them trained, leave a few Knight Squads behind to stand guard, and move the rest to the front."
The border between Moonlight Valley and Wushan Territory was at least ten to twenty kilometers from Shore City. Since a fight was inevitable, it was better to close the distance to make future operations more convenient.
Sophia said with a smile, "Ridder was once a Commander-in-Chief who led an army of ten thousand. My meager skills are nothing in his presence."
She had originally claimed that her experience fighting the Demon God’s minions would allow her to better lead the Wushan Castle Knight Order against the Witch Soul Race. But now, with Ridder here, she didn’t need to worry about training the Knight Order at all. No one was more suitable for the job than him.
"How about this: I’ll have Petro and Harmon be your deputies. They are both Meteor Knights with considerable combat strength. As for the training, Ridder will still be in overall charge."
Ridder hesitated slightly. "I can do that, but it would go against the Marquis’s intentions."
In one fell swoop, all three of Wushan Castle’s Knight Orders were handed over to Ridder, which was equivalent to giving them all to Ronin.
It seemed somewhat inappropriate, to say the least.
"It’s fine. I’ll explain it clearly to my grandfather. I’m sure he won’t mind."
Lurans supported Ronin in every way. Forget three Knight Orders; even if another three were put under Ronin’s command, he wouldn’t so much as bat an eye.
"Sophia, I heard you have a device for detecting the Witch Soul Race? If possible, I’d like to screen Shore City with you first. If there are any Witch Soul Race spies in the city, we can find them."
"No problem."
Sophia said, "I have the materials here. I’ll make a few more Sensing Stones in the next two days. We’ll give one to each squad leader to prevent the Witch Soul Race from infiltrating."
The Witch Soul Race relied on conversion, wearing the "skin" of comrades to join their ranks. Without Magic Masters like Ronin and Sophia present, they were very difficult to detect.
For the next two days, the group began to act according to the plan they had laid out.
Ridder had Petro and Harmon go to the outer camps first, while he himself continued to train the remaining two Knight Orders.
It was worth noting that after the original Leaders of these two Knight Orders were demoted to Knight Squad leaders, they didn’t dare question the Marquis’s arrangement or show any disrespect to Ronin, but they were still somewhat resentful.
But after witnessing Sophia’s Magic Flying Carpet and her scorching Flame Magic, every last one of them shut their mouths.
Meanwhile, Ronin and Sophia went around the city, using their Spiritual Power to scan for any spies.
They wouldn’t have known if they hadn’t looked, but their search really did uncover two members of the Witch Soul Race, one of whom was discovered by Anilu using a Sensing Stone.
Unfortunately, these two individuals were rather dull-witted. According to Sophia, they were the lowest grade of "Shadow Mist" in the Witch Soul Race, and nothing could be tortured out of them.
An interrogation confirmed this, so Ronin could only send the two on their way.
Although the interrogation yielded nothing, it confirmed that Moonlight Valley had not given up on its designs for Shore City, and by extension, Wushan Territory.
Meanwhile, inside Moonlight Castle, the expression of Mephisto—pale-skinned and completely shrouded in a black robe—grew stern.
He took out the Witch Soul Pearl and sensed its feedback.
"The two ’nails’ that infiltrated Shore City have been pulled out. I didn’t expect them to be so fast. Heh, Xiluo of the City of Dawn, I never thought you’d let your daughter risk crossing the Sea of Storms to come here."
Mephisto took a deep breath. Two soul fragments flew out from the Witch Soul Pearl and drilled into his nostrils.
"What a pity your daughter has such poor judgment, choosing to ally herself with a Lord whose territory is about to be carved up. This ensures that you will gain nothing here on the Star Continent."
A sharp glint appeared in his eyes. "Orland will be our territory!"
Jesus walked in from outside. "My Lord, as you arranged, I have had all the teams near Wushan Territory pull back."
This time, Jesus had returned with excellent news.
Mephisto hadn’t expected that after coming to this New Continent, there would actually be humans willing to support him—something that would be impossible on the Crescent Continent.
He could only lament how foolish the people here were while gleefully accepting their support.
For now, he was in no hurry to act. Instead, he would patiently wait for the reinforcements from Ferrensburg to arrive. That would be the opportune moment to make his move.
As for what Jesus had mentioned—that the Kingdom and the Crown Prince wanted him to obey the Royal Family’s orders to balance and check the other nobles—to be honest, Mephisto treated it as a joke. He had never considered doing something so tedious.
He had come to the Oduin Kingdom with two missions: first, to find a Dragon, and second, to create chaos.
He had found a Dragon now, but it already belonged to someone else. Mephisto could only give up on the idea of controlling the Giant Dragon.
Therefore, the only thing left for him to do was create chaos.
"Go, Jesus. Go and assist Viscount Milk. Bring all the valuable people from his territory here!" he commanded.
Jesus placed a hand on his chest. "As you wish, Lord Divine Envoy!"
