Chapter 218 218: 6.27 - Stray Hunter
If it were normal knight training, Lucian would need someone to supervise his progress and keep him safe. And even they couldn't take it as far as Lucian did, for the risk of permanent damage.
After the lightning shower, the storm calmed down, as if the sky had given up on killing Goblin. He was itching to attack the skies in the belief that it would help him reveal all the hidden shackles around the world, but he resisted the urge.
That's how the shackled threat was suppressed in the past. They made the shackled act out and show themselves, then hunted them down. It was the reincarnated giants' only hope of survival.
"Boss, there were diamond-ranked hay heads too," Goblin shared his newfound knowledge with Lucian.
They were sitting at the edge of the cliff, looking out at the scenery while Jax was setting up the fire.
The journey left the ferals exhausted, so they all huddled together for warmth, like a bunch of stacked logs. They preferred their beastly behavior when not commanded otherwise.
"Hair color didn't matter back then, and one could choose all four paths of cultivation. Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Western. You had to spend a period of your life in those regions for the body to adapt."
Lucian used Goblin as his source of history, but the kid was still young and didn't know all the answers to his questions.
"North was the path of the Earth's Heart, South was the path of the Sun, East was the path of the Moon, and West was the path of the Stars. Giants lived in the center of all four regions, creating our own fifth path of cultivation, the astral path."
Goblin showcased his gravitational force control to Lucian, lifting a rock off the ground with little effort and throwing it across the hills. The rock didn't fall the way Lucian expected. It fell in a zig-zag manner, as if gravity itself were twisted.
Jax watched the flying rock pass by him. He was taken aback by Goblin's powers, his jaw hanging open, "How does one get their past life's memories back? I want to remember too... What if I were an important figure in the past?"
"It's not always good to remember," Goblin frowned, probably remembering the massacre of his kind, "Some wish to forget."
Jax thought it over, then shook his head, "I still want to remember. What's the cost of a few bad memories if they can give me strength? My current rank is not enough. I'm stuck."
He sat down next to them, rubbing his face as the warm fire bathed their backs, "My mother is still being used as a hostage, and I am still powerless to free her."
Even Jax's beast behaved around Goblin, which gave Jax some breathing room from being controlled by it. So, he dared to be more himself.
"Ah... your father is a seven-marked hunter, right?" Goblin asked, and Jax nodded in confirmation.
"His reputation as a top stray hunter gives him a lot of power. Even King Eon gives him face," Jax shared with them bitterly.
Top stray hunters usually infiltrated other kingdoms to hunt down the refugees who fled the south. Jax's father's fame came from tracking and killing the most dangerous spies and rebels who managed to slip past the borders.
Jax couldn't even hide his mother due to the binding. No matter where his mother would go, his father could find her.
While Goblin tapped his chin, thinking about a solution, Lucian was thinking about how to bypass the wish-granting rules of the shackles.
He wondered if the ruby stage would be enough to take control of the shackles, or would he need to be a diamond rank to resist them? At least enough to be able to marry Celine.
They traveled through the hills for seven more days, without any more lightning incidents. Goblin lost his voice with all the talking he did and was now reduced to a mute.
Jax took the climbing most seriously, taking the lead after Lucian and making sure the rest were following his pace. Training his mind and body was crucial for his advancement.
On the seventh day, they saw Lord A's and Cansan waiting for them with caravans on the other side of the hills, inside the Diamond Kingdom's territory.
They split up, with Cansan and Lord A's taking the ferals to the Breezy Cove port, while Lucian went to the capital to meet up with Celine.
