Chapter 349: The Time Overseer’s Final Challenge [1]
Chapter 349: The Time Overseer’s Final Challenge [1]
Leon prepared himself as he faced the [Time Overseer] directly, his eyes glowing with determination as he got ready to launch his first attack against this seemingly unbeatable opponent.
Of course, Leon knew deep down that it was probably useless to even try, but the time overseer himself had said that it wasn’t "impossible" to hit him, so he wanted to test what kind of leeway he actually had in this challenge.
With one swift dash that pushed his speed to its absolute limit, Leon closed the distance between himself and the [Time Overseer] in an instant and swung his sword with all his might.
But right as the blade was about to collide with the figure’s body, something unexpected happened, or well, it was actually expected in that context.
BOOM!
An explosion of temporal energy erupted from the [Time Overseer] and time completely stopped around Leon, freezing him in place mid-swing.
By the time time returned to normal, the time overseer had simply moved away to another spot completely unharmed as Leon’s sword slashed through nothing but empty air.
He didn’t back away though as he attempted it again immediately, attacking once more with renewed determination.
"Just for your information, I allow you to keep your consciousness even when time stops," the figure grinned at Leon, "Because if I wanted to really mess with you... I could do this instead."
BOOM!
Time stopped again as Leon was about to attack, but this time around, he wasn’t actually able to see any movement whatsoever.
One moment the time overseer was standing right before him, and the very next nanosecond he had completely disappeared from sight.
The [Time Overseer] allowed Leon to be able to see and register what was happening even when time was stopped around him.
But if he wanted not to allow that, he could simply choose to hide everything, making it seem like the time overseer was teleporting for him rather than just moving while time was frozen.
Leon repeated that many more times over the next hour, attacking from every angle and with every technique he knew, but as expected, he couldn’t even come close to hitting him even once.
Beating an opponent that could stop time at will was simply impossible, no matter how Leon thought about it or what strategy he tried to employ.
In fact, to truly showcase this massive difference in power between them, the time overseer decided to go on the offensive.
"Dodge this if you can," the time overseer laughed mockingly.
And as he stopped time to dodge a few spells Leon launched at him, he appeared right in front of the human player and swung his fist directly at his chest.
And as time returned at the very last moment, Leon didn’t have nearly enough agility to be able to dodge this attack in time.
BOOM!
The sheer strength of the attack was so incredibly powerful that it sent Leon flying backward and made him hit the wall behind him with bone-crushing force.
But that wasn’t the worst part of the situation because...
"Oh shit," the time overseer actually panicked a little as he saw Leon’s body go limp on the ground, "I killed him by accident..."
Ding!
[You have died.]
The difference in power between them was simply too much to overcome, with even a single casual attack from the time overseer being able to kill Leon outright.
The time overseer had the ability to control time itself, but he didn’t have the ability to bring back the dead either, meaning that he truly thought he had killed the human player permanently.
Yet right as he approached Leon’s lifeless body to check on him, something miraculous happened.
Fwoosh!
Blue light surrounded Leon’s body as cracks appeared all over it, and after a few seconds of reconstruction, Leon got back up to his feet.
"...Incredible," the time overseer’s eyes widened with genuine surprise, "You can actually revive yourself after death...?"
"Only once every 48 hours, so please don’t kill me again," Leon groaned as he stretched his newly restored limbs.
"Oh?"
Hearing that limitation, a malevolent glow appeared in the time overseer’s face, and he raised his scepter high into the air.
Fwoosh!
With a single swing of his scepter, the sky above the time tower began to change rapidly, or more precisely, time started to advance at an incredible speed.
Leon watched as in a matter of seconds, the sky went from dark and filled with countless stars to bright blue daytime, then once again dark, then blue again, and once again returning to its original state.
"You..." Leon’s eyes widened as he realized exactly what was happening.
Ding!
["Life Vessel" is usable again.]
"With that little trick, it should be perfectly fine," the time overseer laughed heartily, "Every time you die, I’ll simply advance time to allow you to come back, in fact, I’ll do it with any of your abilities that require time to recharge!"
It might sound like a great deal on the surface, but to Leon, it also meant that each time he died, two full days passed outside in the real world.
Each time he died during this challenge... he needed to make Emilia and Celeste wait two additional days without knowing what had happened to him.
Leon tried repeatedly to attack afterward, over and over, but truly nothing could come close to hitting the time overseer.
All of his spells were either avoided completely or even deflected with a single casual sway of the overseer’s scepter.
OBLIVION METEOR!
After around two hours of constant failure, Leon even summoned his forbidden spell’s power, the massive meteor taking up the entirety of the time tower’s top platform.
But alas, even that wasn’t enough to make a difference.
Fwoosh!
The time overseer simply stopped time once again, and that meant the meteor also stopped moving in place as well, frozen in midair.
Then with a wide grin...
SLASH!
He cut the meteor cleanly in half using a streak of light from his scepter, shattering it entirely as its remains fell out of the time tower and disappeared into the void below.
Even a forbidden spell wasn’t enough to make the overseer even budge an inch from his position.
