Episode Two Hundred and Thirty-One: Family Visitors
“Dragons today!” Indigo’s voice filled my room in the early light.I rubbed my eyes, trying to gauge what time it could possibly be. Early, I decided, way too early. “Indigo, sleep. It’s sleep time…”
I rolled back over and pulled the covers over my head. Then it dawned on me what she’d said.
“What, the dragons are coming?” I sat up, frowning. “More details, please…”
“Lady Twilight should be coming for a lesson,” she said, landing on the end of my bed and crawling up closer to me. “She said so!”
“But… wait… when did you talk to her?” My brain wasn’t as awake as I wanted, and honestly, given the hour as I finally got a good look at the clock, I still had another hour or so of sleep. I really wanted to go back to bed, but Indigo obviously had been up for hours already.
Indigo practically danced up my blankets until she stood on my lap. “She sent a message.”
I blinked, not realizing they were sending messages. Warnings crept into my mind about internet safety, and how we don’t talk to strangers on the internet.
But this was the dragons. And they didn’t have the internet. So, magic.
“I assume they’ll be here at a normal time, or at least after breakfast?” I said slowly and carefully. I didn’t want to burst her bubble.
She nodded with a smile. “Yep, maybe have breakfast with us?”
“If she wants,” I said, curling back on my pillow and pulling the blanket up.
Indigo jumped and landed on my bed near my face. “Good, she’ll be here for breakfast!”
“Indigo, we have an hour and a half until we normally get up. Let’s get a little more sleep.” I closed my eyes and tried to let sleep take me back under.
Small snores rose from Indigo, which made me literally chuckle. At least she’d gone back to sleep.
My door cracked open and the Cat peeked his head in. His presence padded over and joined us on the bed.
I glanced at him, and he caught my eye before curling up near Indigo, but not touching her.
Then he went to sleep, for all I could tell.
That left me curled up wanting to fall asleep… and waiting.
Warm light eventually filled the room, along with a soft melody. I smiled and rolled over, stretching above my head as my alarm played softly.
The Cat and Indigo were both gone, and I slowly did my morning routine, which included a long shower. I studied myself in the bathroom mirror, which never fogged up. My purple hair made my eyes pop. Leaning in closer, I tried to get a better look.
Gold specks.
There were gold specks in my eyes.

Magic had changed my eyes. When it changed my hair, it didn't feel like a big deal, but my eyes were a different matter. Still, there wasn’t much I could do about it. Shaking my head, I continued on my way.
Chirps rose from below, along with the Cat’s voice, though I couldn’t make out what he said.
The bookshop rested in its normal arrangement, but if we really were going to have guests for breakfast, Betty had plenty of time to change things up.
By the time I made my way downstairs to the kitchen, the Cat stood next to a pan covered in raw bacon and a carton of eggs. Indigo flew around the room like she’d had way too much sugar.
I moved quickly and slid the bacon into the oven just as it dinged for reaching temperature. Then I grabbed a pan to make some scrambled eggs. It dawned on me as I began to crack them that Betty usually had the oven preheated before I woke if I was going to make bacon.
“Morning, Betty,” I whispered, before patting the counter.
The floor boards warmed up, but only for a split second.
“Must hurry!” Indigo chirped, as she frantically spun around the ceiling.
“We have time, relax a little,” I said as I stirred the eggs. “You can help with the eggs.”
She landed on the counter, but not close like she usually did. “But your eggs are better.”
“Contribution and learning is important,” I said, as I pulled out the spatula for her.
A knock on the front door echoed through the shop, and my head jerked up at how it sounded. “I’ll get that…”
I shuffled to the front of the shop as the Cat spoke to Indigo in another low voice. The front remained the same as before, and a figure stood right outside the door. I rushed to unlock it and opened it wide.
Lady Twilight stepped inside, along with Lord Bennit. He looked so much better than the last time I’d seen him. His white hair practically shone, and his blue eyes sparkled again.
“Good morning, both of you,” I said with a big smile, unable to look away from him. “You feel like you're doing better.”
Lord Bennit smiled brightly. “I am! Thank you for the invite to breakfast.”
“Of course, you’re family…” I hadn’t extended an invite, but that was okay. Indigo could invite them whenever she wanted. Though, she hadn’t mentioned him, only Lady Twilight.
I led them back to the kitchen, and found Indigo stirring the eggs on the stove and the Cat staring at a plate with several donuts on it. There wasn’t a chance he’d had pulled them out. That left Betty.
Donuts would be a nice addition to the spread. A pot of tea sat on the island, with a few cups next to it. It smelled like the dragon tea I’d made for them before.
I still needed some coffee, but I motioned to the island and everyone stood around it. “Welcome, and feel free to take a seat. Does anyone want some coffee?
The two dragons went right for the tea, but the Cat’s ears perked up. Indigo’s attention stayed on the eggs, and carefully stirring them. The temperature was a little lower than normal, which would help her out.
I headed to the front and quickly made the Cat and I lattes. Basic vanilla, nothing fancy, but the milk steamed perfectly. His went into a teacup, while mine went into my blue mug with stars.
Back in the kitchen, the two dragons watched Indigo cook.
“Here you go,” I said to the Cat, as I set his teacup in his normal spot.
“Eggs are almost done,” said Indigo with a tight chirp.
I made my way to the stove and did a quick glance in the pan. The eggs looked rather good.
“You are getting so good at that,” I said with a smile. “I know the spatula is hard with your claws, but you make it work anyway.”
Her scales flushed a deeper purple, as I snagged the pan to set it on the island. She turned around and spotted Lord Bennit. Her eyes went wide and she leaped into the air, flying to his shoulder. She spoke faster than I could keep up.
The timer for the bacon buzzed, and I snagged an oven mit before I set the pan on top of the stove. A plate covered in paper towels rested on the counter, waiting for the bacon.
I quickly transferred it over and blotted it before adding it to the table.
Finally, I sat, and Indigo climbed down to sit closer to Lord Bennit.
“So, what brings you both here today?” I asked with a smile. “Not that you're not welcome. It’s good to see you both.”
The Cat’s ears twitched and he glanced at Lord Bennit, before looking back at me. Something warned me that he hadn’t expected to see Lord Bennit, either. This all revolved around him.
So, why was he here?
